Why templates exist

Configuring AI agents from scratch — writing system prompts, defining roles, setting up inter-agent awareness, choosing AI models — requires decisions that most users are not ready to make on day one. Team templates eliminate this cold-start problem by providing pre-configured agent teams that you can deploy in a single click and customize afterward.

k-claw offers four templates, each designed for a different business size and use case. This guide breaks down what each template includes, who it is for, and how to decide between them.

Freelancer template (2 agents)

The Freelancer template deploys two agents designed for individual professionals who need reliable AI support for their daily work. This is the entry point for most k-claw users.

Agent roles:

  • Assistant — A general-purpose agent for communication tasks: email drafting, client responses, meeting notes, document review, and scheduling support. Configured with a professional, direct communication style.
  • Specialist — A domain-focused agent tailored to your primary skill. For developers, this becomes a code review and architecture agent. For marketers, a content and SEO specialist. For consultants, a research and analysis agent. You customize the system prompt during or after deployment to match your expertise.

RAM requirement: 4 GB VPS (approximately 3 GB for agents + 1 GB OS). This is the cheapest VPS tier available from most providers.

Ideal user: Freelancers, consultants, coaches, solo entrepreneurs, or anyone who wants AI assistance without the complexity of a full team. If you are spending hours daily on emails, proposals, and content that follows predictable patterns, two focused agents handle it faster and more consistently.

Upgrade path: When you find that two agents are not enough — usually because you need specialized context that conflicts between roles — you can add individual agents without redeploying, or upgrade to the Startup template on a larger server.

Startup template (3 agents)

The Startup template deploys three agents covering the core functions every early-stage company needs: operations coordination, technical execution, and market-facing activities.

Agent roles:

  • COO — Coordinates work across the team, drafts operational plans, manages priorities, creates meeting agendas and action items. Acts as the central hub that delegates to other agents when needed.
  • CTO — Handles technical decisions, code review, architecture planning, security assessment, and technical documentation. Pre-configured with prompts for evaluating trade-offs and providing actionable recommendations.
  • CMO — Manages content strategy, SEO analysis, social media planning, email campaign drafts, and brand voice. Configured to maintain consistency across all customer-facing communication.

RAM requirement: 8 GB VPS (approximately 4.5 GB for agents + 1 GB OS, with headroom for growth).

Ideal user: Founders with a product or service who need executive-level thinking across operations, technology, and marketing but cannot hire three senior roles. Startups in the pre-revenue or early revenue stage where the founder is wearing all hats. Small teams of 2-3 people who need specialized AI support in areas outside their expertise.

What makes it different from Freelancer: The Startup template includes a coordination agent (COO) and enables meaningful inter-agent workflows. Your COO can delegate a technical assessment to the CTO and a market analysis to the CMO, then synthesize their responses into an executive summary. This coordination layer is what transforms three individual tools into a functioning team.

Agency template (4 agents)

The Agency template deploys four agents optimized for service businesses that manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously. The focus is on client deliverables, project coordination, and quality consistency.

Agent roles:

  • Account Manager — Handles client communication: drafts status updates, prepares meeting agendas, writes proposals, and manages expectations. Each client can have a dedicated context file with their preferences, history, and ongoing projects.
  • Creative Director — Produces and reviews client deliverables: copywriting, content strategy, design briefs, brand guidelines compliance. Configured to adapt tone and style per client based on uploaded brand documents.
  • Project Manager — Tracks project progress, identifies bottlenecks, drafts timelines, creates task breakdowns, and generates status reports. Coordinates with other agents to gather project updates.
  • Analyst — Handles data-driven work: competitive analysis, market research, performance reporting, ROI calculations, and data interpretation from CSV exports or pasted data.

RAM requirement: 8 GB VPS (approximately 6 GB for agents + 1 GB OS). Fits on an 8 GB server but runs with less headroom than the Startup template.

Ideal user: Digital agencies, marketing firms, consulting practices, design studios, and any service business managing 3+ concurrent client engagements. The Agency template excels when you need to maintain distinct context and voice for each client while keeping internal operations efficient.

What makes it different from Startup: The Agency template is client-centric rather than company-centric. Instead of C-suite roles focused on building your company, it deploys roles focused on delivering excellent client work. The Account Manager and Creative Director roles are specifically designed for multi-client environments where context-switching between different brand voices is constant.

Complete Team template (7 agents)

The Complete Team template is the full AI workforce — seven agents covering every major business function. This is the "AI Company in a Box" configuration.

Agent roles:

  • COO — Central coordinator for all operations, workflow optimization, and team delegation
  • CFO — Financial analysis, budget planning, cost optimization, invoice review
  • CTO — Technical leadership, architecture decisions, code review, security
  • CMO — Content strategy, SEO, campaigns, brand voice management
  • Sales — Lead qualification, proposal writing, outreach sequences, CRM analysis
  • Support — Customer response drafts, FAQ management, ticket triage, satisfaction tracking
  • HR — Job descriptions, interview preparation, policy documents, onboarding materials

RAM requirement: 16 GB VPS (approximately 10.5 GB for agents + 1 GB OS).

Ideal user: Established solo operators or small teams (1-5 people) running a business that touches all seven functional areas. If you have customers (Support), a product (CTO), revenue targets (Sales), a brand (CMO), finances to track (CFO), and processes to optimize (COO), this template covers everything. Also suitable for businesses preparing to scale who want to systematize their operations before hiring.

What makes it unique: The Complete Team is the only template that creates a full organizational hierarchy. The COO agent is configured as the team coordinator, and all agents understand the organizational structure. Inter-agent communication flows naturally — the COO delegates, specialists execute, and results flow back up. This mirrors how a real company operates, making the AI team intuitive to manage.

Choosing the right template

Use this decision framework:

  • Do you primarily work alone on your own deliverables? Start with Freelancer. Two focused agents handle the repetitive work (emails, drafts, analysis) while you focus on high-value activities.
  • Are you building a company and need strategic thinking across multiple domains? Choose Startup. The three C-suite agents provide executive-level support for operations, technology, and marketing.
  • Do you serve multiple clients and need to maintain distinct context for each? Go with Agency. The client-centric roles and multi-context management are designed specifically for service businesses.
  • Do you need support across all business functions — operations, finance, tech, marketing, sales, support, and HR? Deploy Complete Team. Seven specialists give you comprehensive coverage at a fraction of the cost of hiring.

You can always change

Templates are not permanent decisions. They are pre-configured starting points that save you the initial setup time. After deployment, every aspect of every agent is fully customizable through the k-claw dashboard:

  • Rename agents and change their roles
  • Edit system prompts to match your specific needs
  • Add or remove agents individually
  • Upload context files per agent
  • Install specialized skills from the marketplace
  • Switch AI models per agent

Many users start with the Freelancer template, learn the system, and upgrade to Startup or Complete Team as their needs grow. Others deploy the Complete Team immediately and pare down agents they do not need. The k-claw courses walk you through both approaches — starting small and scaling up, or starting full and optimizing down.
